The Challenge

After over a decade of grassroots work in Karnataka’s underserved districts, OBLF had the impact most nonprofits aim for - first-generation learners, waste-worker families accessing public healthcare, and entire blocks moving up the literacy index. Working across education, healthcare, and community rehabilitation, their outcomes were powerful but their communications didn’t match their outcomes.

Key hurdles:

  • Donor presentations were dense, descriptive, and hard to visualize.
  • Quarterly updates lacked emotional texture and narrative glue.
  • Multiple verticals (education, health, rehabilitation) made it harder to connect the dots.
  • Funders couldn’t “feel” the work without being on the ground.

OBLF needed a system to convert its decade-long grassroots journey into a clear, credible, and emotionally resonant funder experience.

Our Approach

We asked a simple question: If a funder can’t visit the village, can the village visit the funder? We built a three-part donor engagement engine that combined logic, empathy, and clarity:

  • A pitch deck to structure the narrative
  • A visceral experiential event to bring the field closer
  • A reimagined report to reinforce messaging across donor journeys
Execution

1. Investor Deck

  • Repositioned education and healthcare as interlinked levers for generational change
  • Reordered narrative from system logic → field execution → funding outcomes
  • Included faces + field quotes on every pillar to reinforce human outcomes

2. Donor Conclave — “See / Feel / Fund”

We designed an immersive physical experience where funders could walk through the work.

  • Photobook Series: “A Day in the Life” of students, teachers, health workers. Each story was split into: What you see (visible outcomes) and What you don’t see (invisible effort)
  • Impact Map Installation: District-level growth illustrated through visual journeys (showing how coverage expanded across districts)
  • Suspended photo panels: Created a walk-through experience, letting donors move through villages without leaving the venue.

3. Annual Report Redesign

  • Restructured dense data into clean, skimmable infographics.
  • Embedded micro-narratives alongside metrics to preserve emotional weight.
  • Unified visual language with deck and event for a seamless brand experience across touchpoints.

Clearer Positioning

Reframed OBLF’s work into a system-led, emotionally anchored narrative

Higher Recall, Stronger Pull

“What You Don’t See” became a sticky narrative device making the work easier to grasp, retell, and fund.

A Scalable Donor Experience

The narrative system works across formats (decks, events, and reports) building recognition and trust at every touchpoint.
