The Challenge

SHRM’s consulting arm operates at the intersection of HR insight and enterprise-scale execution. They approached us to engineer a modular communication system that could:

  • Adapt to a variety of use-cases across consulting engagements
  • Maintain fidelity to SHRM’s global brand governance system
  •  Structure complex information for business decision-makers
  •  Balance visual consistency with presenter flexibility
Our Approach

We treated the deck not as a one-off asset, but as a modular communication system and a grid-based, scalable platform that SHRM consultants could adapt, update, and deploy without compromising fidelity or clarity

Our design philosophy was anchored in four principles:

  • Precision framing for strategy-first storytelling
  • Information hierarchy to guide decision-making
  • Template consistency to reduce friction across teams

Execution

1. System Design:

Working within the brand guidelines, we pushed for creativity by introducing 

  • A flexible grid system that allowed visual rhythm without breaching brand templates
  • Minimalist iconography and section dividers that carried both semantic and structural weight

Clear slide-level typographic hierarchy for scanning, skimming, and presenting

2. Information Architecture:

We restructured the Table of Contents to reflect consulting flow:

  • Opening problem statements → Strategic framing → Solution depth → Team/Case studies
  • Reusable section templates (with locked master layouts) ensured brand integrity
  • Diagnostic and solution slides were designed with vertical progression, ideal for on-call delivery

3. Design System Fidelity

  • Created a dual-orientation-compatible layout for diverse use cases: solo presentation, team walkthrough, or visual-only sharing
  • Integrated custom icon systems and filler slides for seamless adaptation across sectors and mandates
  • Developed editable infographics tied to SHRM’s brand color palette and tone
  • Ensured typography, whitespace, and visual emphasis followed a clean logic

4. Slide-Level Utility + Enterprise Functionality

  • Hierarchy and contrast: Structuring complex info for boardroom clarity
  • Ease of update: Templates enabled plug-and-play use by consultants, reducing dependency on design support
  • Content expansion: Designed to scale with SHRM’s evolving advisory verticals
